The Real Story about GoDaddy and AR15.com
We have gotten numerous inquiries as to why we use GoDaddy for our web services given that they de-platformed the site AR15.com. The short answer is it's not true. We've talked to several GoDaddy representatives and they all tell us the same. They do not host AR15.com's website. AR15.com bought their site through GoDaddy, but AWS hosts the site. That's Amazon Web Services. The people at GoDaddy have assured us that they had nothing to do with any decision to de-platform AR15.com, if that actually happened. This story grows in suspicion as time goes on. AR15.com is not down as of this writing, and even on the day the story broke their site was up. We have no proof of this, but this smells of a publicity stunt.
We do have some issues with GoDaddy that we're trying to resolve. Right now their infrastructure only allows for video links from YouTube and Vimeo. We want to link to Rumble. We've made this desire known to GoDaddy, and they're taking it under consideration. They're not alone in limited video link selection. We shopped around for any other hosting company that would allow links to Rumble, and we couldn't find one. So we're staying put until some other opportunity opens up.
The stark reality is this movement is only limited by one thing: cost. If you've never embarked on an endeavor like this you may not realize just how expensive it is. There's not only the cost of a website, but email marketing plans, which can become quite costly as your subscribers grow. Right out of the gate we overwhelmed our first subscriber plan and had to upgrade. We hope to defray our costs with a merchandise page where you can support us and sport really cool clothing at the same time. More financial resources will give us more options.
Navigating this Big Tech revolt can sometimes be tricky. Big Tech is so intertwined with so many companies it's very hard to find any tech company that's not, in some way, connected to Big Tech. We can't change the world overnight. As this movement grows then so will the list of options to Big Tech. Our hope is that the marketplace will meet the demand for stand-alone companies that are not beholden to the tech companies that want to censor you. We hope you join us in putting pressure on companies like GoDaddy to wean themselves from the gatekeepers.
